What you get

Mandatory entry-level training will include 103.5 hours of instruction  (in-class, yard, inspection, on the road, off the road) and cover the entry-level knowledge and skills needed to safely operate a large truck on Ontario’s roads.

You may add Air Brake (Z) Endorsement course to your MELT program. See the add-on option below.

Once you’ve completed the training, your driving record will be updated automatically and the training will be valid for life.

To get a full Class A licence with no restrictions, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Hold a valid Ontario G License or higher
  • Pass MTO Written Test (Knowledge Test) (40 questions; 20 Class A and 20 Road Signs, Traffic Laws and Regulations) at a drive test center: Upon successful completion of the written test, please obtain proof of completion, normally reflected on the yellow sheet. See our practice tests.
  • Have minimum Grade 10 English (or equivalent): High school transcript, diploma or at minimum proof of grade 10 English education must be provided to us. An equivalency test is available at our school for those who did not complete grade 10, were educated outside of Canada or cannot find their proof of education/transcripts
  • Complete our Class A MELT Program (103.5 hours)
  • Pass a road test using our truck that meets the requirements for a full Class A

A full Class AZ (air brake endorsement) truck licence lets you drive;

  • Any truck/tractor-trailer combination
  • A combination of motor vehicle and towed vehicles where the towed vehicles exceed a total gross weight of 4,600 kg (10,000 lbs) and has air brakes
  • A vehicle pulling double trailers
  • A car or light truck covered by a Class G licence
  • Heavy trucks covered by the Class D truck licence
  • Any vehicle covered under a restricted Class A truck licence
